Laughing At Myself Is Healthy

September 17, 2019 by Bryan K

Life has a surprising sense of humor. It puts me in situations that are humbling yet hilarious.

I am prone to doing silly things and that is okay. Sometimes my brain goes for a walk and leaves my body behind. When that happens, I take the outcome lightly. I go easy on myself because I am human.

Perfection is the last thing that I aim to achieve. My flaws are part of my uniqueness, so I celebrate them. I love being natural and real.

My friends and family love me for who I am. When I am around them, I feel comfortable enough to be goofy. Telling silly jokes is okay when I am with special people because they see and know the real me. I prefer to be measured by the contents of my soul.

Forgetting my own birthday happens as I get older. But instead of developing anxiety about aging, I laugh at its side effects.

I am content with being blessed with another year of life. Knowing that I have life and the love of special people reminds me to focus on what is important. I laugh at my temporary memory lapse and move forward with celebrations.

Avoiding taking myself too seriously gives me the chance to focus on the things that matter. How I treat others is more meaningful than acceptance from others.

Today, laughing is good for my soul. It keeps my spirit young and alive. Poking fun at myself reminds me that I am human and just as vulnerable as anyone else. That is a good lesson in humility.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. What are some of the silly things that I constantly do?
2. How willing am I to be goofy to entertain the kids in my family?
3. How comfortable am I with being different from everyone else?
